Talk Derby To Me

a glass of beer on a table

There are very few American sporting events with the history and popularity of the Kentucky Derby. Its rich traditions – sipping a mint julep, dressing up in your most elegant hat, and joining fellow race fans in singing “My Old Kentucky Home” – go beyond the Kentucky Derby from just a sporting event, making it a celebration of southern culture and a true icon of Americana. The Kentucky Derby is the longest running sporting event in the United States, dating back to 1875.  The race is often referred to as "The Run for the Roses®" and has continuously produced “the most exhilarating two minutes in sports.”

The Kentucky Derby, presented by Woodford Reserve, is a top rank, Grade I stakes race for 3 year old Purebred horses. The race distance is one and one-quarter miles long, and it is run on the dirt racetrack at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The high class and celebrities are often sited at the Kentucky Derby in their best designer hats, one of the first celebrity sightings dates to 1877 when famed Polish actress Helena Modjeska attended the third running of the Kentucky Derby, in addition presidents such as Richard Nixon and many other celebrities have attended “The Run For The Roses.”

Burt and Max’s is proud to continue in celebrating America’s grandest sporting tradition with their Kentucky Derby Social. The event will be hosted on the back bar and patio area on Saturday, May 4th from 5-7 pm. We encourage our guests to dress to impress in your most iconic hat and attire. The most dapper male and/or most unique hat for woman will be voted on by the B&M staff and will have the opportunity to win gift cards. Play to win! There will be a number of 'betting' games as we countdown to the "most exciting two minutes in sports." Place your bets for the winner, take your chances at the Horse Draw or bet on the loser - “Lucky Longshots” - where you can bet on which horse will finish last!

We will be offering classic specials and cocktails to give you a splash of southern tradition.  Items such as classic deviled eggs, Kentucky 'hot brown' sliders, pickled shrimp cocktail, maple-bourbon glazed pork tenderloin, and for dessert chocolate, bourbon & pecan bread pudding. Our bartenders will be crafting the fan favorite mint Julep, Kentucky mule and off to the races martini.
